Connecticut Republican Leadership Coalition to testify against Same Day Voter Registration Bill

Hartford, CT- On March 2nd, members of the Connecticut Republican Leadership Coalition executive committee will travel to Hartford to testify against the Same Day Voter Registration Bill being considered by the House of Representatives.

This bill allows for any individual to register on the same day of an election after declaring under oath to that town’s election workers. If the individual’s identification does not include proof of his or her residential address, they can still vote and have thirty days to submit a proper form of identification to their town officials.

“This law will lead to greater voter fraud throughout the state of Connecticut and will open the door to other election problems in the future.” said Chairman Ryan Bingham (R-Torrington).

Members of CRLC agree with Governor Malloy about the intent of increasing people’s ability to vote but this bill will harm the integrity of our democratic system.

“This is another unfunded mandate on municipalities that will increase the financial burden on communities,” said Vice Chairman Gregg Schuster (R-Colchester). “Additionally, the chance of voter fraud increases when town officials don’t have time to verify the registration information.”
